Work with Schools

Neurofiles is working with a number of schools across the North West and Midlands, inner-city and rural, to support them in becoming research-informed learning environments. We are also working with teachers and schools in Sri Lanka, sharing our ideas and learning lots from them. We provide a basic but comprehensive summary of educational neuroscience – how brains work, learn, and what affects working and learning.  We focus on the importance of understanding plasticity and memory, and how environmental factors profoundly affect the quality and longevity of learning. We discuss psychology, spanning from the 1970s until now, covering concepts such as Cognitive Load Theory and Growth Mindsets.  It is incredibly satisfying that neuroscience offers scientific support for many popular psychological theories. We discuss a myriad of other classroom factors, which, in addition to teaching, can significantly contribute to children’s academic performance and motivation. We can also deliver a high-quality, in-depth coaching programme; once staff are able to become their own research-practitioners, the impact of any initiatives can be measured and evaluated. We believe that education is far more than a test of performance, which is why we believe it’s essential to track pupils’ motivation levels and attitude towards school and learning. Establishing a lifelong love of learning is essential to sustaining a child’s performance throughout school and well beyond.
